What detector pixel pitches and formats do your LWIR lenses support?

Our standard and custom infrared optics support LWIR, MWIR, and SWIR systems, with designs tailored to cooled and uncooled detectors. Chalcogenide LWIR lens options accommodate 8, 12, and 17 µm pixel pitches and detector resolutions including 384 × 288, 640 × 512, and 1280 × 1024. Multiple focal lengths and athermal design options help match detector dimensions, spectral response, and imaging requirements.

Passive athermalization balances the temperature-dependent optical properties of lens materials with the thermal expansion of mechanical components. By carefully selecting materials and optimizing lens geometry and spacing, the design compensates for focus shifts without motors, heaters, or active adjustment. This helps maintain image sharpness across the specified operating temperature range, with performance verified through thermal and optical testing.

Chalcogenide glass is well suited to high-volume precision molding, reducing per-lens processing time while improving production efficiency and consistency. Aspheric designs can also reduce lens element counts and assembly steps, helping lower overall manufacturing costs at scale.

For custom optical designs (modified EFL, FOV, or mechanical interfaces), our typical prototyping cycle ranges from 7 to 8 weeks from optical drawing approval to prototype delivery. For standard Off-The-Shelf (OTS) lens options, we maintain buffer stock for rapid sampling within a few business days.

Yes. All Lensmind thermal lenses are fully RoHS and REACH compliant. We also offer Arsenic-free (As-free) chalcogenide glass options upon request, meeting strict environmental and export regulatory requirements for global commercial deployments.

For an accurate optical assessment, please share your detector resolution and pixel pitch, operating wavelength range, required field of view (FOV) or effective focal length (EFL), and target f-number. Include any mounting requirements, size constraints, and operating conditions, such as temperature range, shock, and vibration.

FAQ

What detector pixel pitches and formats do your LWIR lenses support?
Our chalcogenide LWIR lenses are engineered to support mainstream long-wave infrared uncooled detector platforms, including 8 µm, 12 µm, and 17 µm pixel pitches. They are widely compatible with standard VGA (640×512), QVGA (384×288), and high-definition thermal core resolutions from leading global detector manufacturers.
Our passive athermalized lenses utilize a precise mechanical and optical combination—balancing the negative thermal refraction index ($\text{d}n/\text{d}T$) of chalcogenide glass materials with specialized housing metals (such as aluminum or titanium). This design automatically compensates for focal shift across extreme operating ranges (typically $-40^\circ\text{C}$ to $+80^\circ\text{C}$), ensuring crisp, sharp thermal imaging without motorized refocusing.
While germanium is traditional, chalcogenide glass offers significant advantages for scalable volume production. Chalcogenide can be precision-molded aspheric lenses, which drastically reduces spherical aberration, cuts down component count, and lowers unit costs in mass production. Additionally, chalcogenide materials provide excellent transmission in the 8–14 µm band and are less susceptible to sudden global raw material price fluctuations.
For custom optical designs (modified EFL, FOV, or mechanical interfaces), our typical prototyping cycle ranges from 4 to 6 weeks from optical drawing approval to prototype delivery.
To give you the most accurate optical evaluation, please provide your detector resolution, pixel pitch, operating spectral band (e.g., 8–14 µm), required Field of View (FOV) or Focal Length (EFL), target F-number ($F/\#$), and any mechanical envelope or environmental constraints.
